Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) comprise the triad of heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Chronic diseases, such as CVD, occur in an individual because of the combination of genetic (hereditary) factors and environmental factors. The hereditary factors cannot be modified while a portion of the environmental factors are usually modifiable. It is the function of Preventive Medicine (facilitated by GTH) to identify, assess and help to modify the factors involved.

All individuals either have or will have risk factors which make them more susceptible to CVD and this program will address those specific risk factors. The identification of those risk factors as early as possible in their lives and the modification of those risk factors is the basis of Preventive Medicine.

The program will provide the information that will empower individuals to advocate for their own health. The program's documentation of chronological changes in risk will reinforce individual lifestyle modifications and therapeutic interventions.

The myheartrisk web site is divided into two main areas.

The “free” portion is composed of this page, the following page that contains the filmstrip and the many pages thereafter that comprise the educational portion. Those pages are accessed through the "video" and "education" tabs at the top.

The risk analysis portion and its cost is described in the membership area.

A membership in My Heart Risk provides members with a cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk analysis, multiple printable charts that can be shared with health care providers and expert suggestions for modifying risk factors with the ability to interactively monitor their CVD preventive approach.
