Heart risk assessment

The My Heart Risk heart risk assessment takes a very different approach from others.

MyHeartRisk not only performs a heart disease risk assessment but provides personal guidance and health recommendations as a direct response to the data entered by the individual. This unique approach to heart risk assessment is based upon a longterm relationship between the individual and the program rather than the standard method of entering a few pieces of generalized data.

The My Heart Risk user is given simple instructions to research and then input data about themselves and their family members. Another fundamental difference between the My Heart Risk heart disease risk assessment and others is that the data is retained and securely stored which enables the user to return as often as required to build up their personal database.

Yet another significant difference is the special importance given by My Heat Risk to the family history of heart disease. In order to collect the necessary details of any heart disease problems with family members My Heart Risk encourages the user to build their family tree and record details of heart attack, stroke, PVD and surgical cardiovascular procedure. The longterm partnership between the user and My Heart Risk enables the necessary time to find out and then enter personal information and family members. The heart disease risk assessment program will analyze all the information and prompt the user where significant data is not provided.

The data is used by the heart risk assessment procedure to prepare an individual multipage package consisting of the family tree, risk charts and personal report which can be printed. Each of these can be readily understood by the user but are designed to be invaluable to the user’s doctor or other healthcare advisor. By collecting all of this information and having it collated into this organized format the user can provide their doctor with far more information than would normally be available from several consultations.

Once the user acts upon the health recommendations included in the personal report, and other advice, the user returns to My Heart Risk and updates their personal database of information. Due to the longterm relationship the next major feature of MyHeartRisk is then used to provide progress charts showing the improvement in risk over time. These progress charts not only provide encouragement to the user to continue their efforts but give feedback to their healthcare advisor.

In summary the major differences between the MyHeartRisk heart risk assessment or other major heart disease risk assessment tools are:

  • Personal guidance and health recommendations
  • Longterm relationship using secure database for data entry
  • Special importance given to family history of heart disease
  • Prompts for important missing data
  • Family tree, risk charts and personal report

Heart attack risk

Heart attack risk

Knowing your heart attack risk and more importantly taking steps to make it as low as possible are important stages towards preventing heart disease. A heart attack could be the first time you realize you have heart problems and it is also the time when you realize you have no more chances to avoid heart disease. Once you know you have heart disease your whole outlook on life changes and now you, your family and loved ones have something else to worry about.

Don’t bury your head in the sand, look into what your heart attack risk could be and before it’s too late do something at it to start the process of preventing heart disease. The least that can happen is you may not be able to avoid heart disease but you maybe able to put it off for a while.

Just what is heart attack risk

Heart disease is the most common cause of death so its not surprising that we all have a chance of having a heart attack. For some of us the risk of heart disease happening sooner is higher and for some it may not show itself at all. For a particular age and gender there is an average or population risk and it would be comforting to be below average and it should be a concern to over the average but there is little to be gained by comparing yourself to the average. What matters is you and your heart attack risk. If you were told you were over the average by a number of points what would this mean and would you know what to do to close the gap? What you need is the complete package that you can get from My Heart Risk which

  • estimates your risk for heart disease now and for up to the next 30 years
  • tells you personally what you can do about lowering your risk
  • stays with you as a buddy to provide encouragement and support

What can MyHeartRisk do for you

Other heart attack risk calculators may tell you your current risk compared to the average population but then provide little or no help with lowering your risk. My Heart Risk will analyze each of your heart disease risk factors and give you a detailed explanation of how these contribute to your overall heart attack risk. The program will also give you detailed recommendations on the actions to be taken to mitigate these risks where possible. The help you might need may have to come from your doctor or health care provider in the form of medications and again MyHeartRisk will help you by including in your personal report the information that will be of help to your doctor.
Take a look at these parts that make up your personal package from My Heart Risk

My heart risk score

My heart risk score

Heart risk score chart
To help you get your heart risk score, which estimates the chances of you having heart disease now and in the future, you need to know certain information under the following four main categories:

Yourself

Your age, your gender (male or female), your height and your weight. Also, if you have them, your latest blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Your heart disease family history

Heart disease family history
Have there been any of your relatives who have had heart disease? Inherited heart disease could be one of your heart disease risk factors if you answer yes to any of these:

  • Did the relative have their first symptom of heart disease, such as a heart attack or stroke, at an early age?
  • Is this a close relative?
  • Do you have more than one relative with heart disease?

How healthy is your lifestyle

Healthy life style
Some people have a healthy life style but most do not. Most people compromise and lead a more balanced lifestyle which includes eating a reasonably healthy heart diet, drinking some alcohol, taking some exercise and so on. Some people have an unhealthy lifestyle as they smoke, use cocaine or steroids, are stressed or do not take their medication. Some people are also exposed to environmental health issues which is often not thought of as important as one of the heart disease risk factors.

Your health

Heart concerns
If you have already been diagnosed with:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Diabetes
  • Dyslipidemia (cholesterol)
  • History of blood clotting
  • Heart arrhythmias

then these are also heart disease risk factors.

Your heart risk score

To determine your heart risk score we take each of these components of personal details, the possiblity of inherited heart disease, how healthy is your life style (or is it an unhealthy lifestyle) and any heart concerns to determine your heart disease risk factors. We have developed a sophisticated method of combining this data which has been built up over many years.

After entering this information you print your own heart risk assessment which includes your family tree, risk charts and multipage personal report. These documents will give you an answer to your ‘My heart risk score’ question but they are also designed to be shared with others including your physician or other health care professional.
